Peddler held with 64 gm brown sugar in Palamu
Daltonganj: A 26-year-old man was arrested with 64 grams brown sugar from a forest under Parwa police station limits of Palamu district on Thursday, the police said on Friday. The accused Mumtaz Khan is a native of Garhwa. Palamu SP Reeshma Ramesan said Khan was arrested based on a tip.
“A team of cops found the man roaming in Madhuri Forest and became suspicious. Khan tried to flee but was apprehended. Cash totalling to Rs 1,200 was recovered from him. He confessed to peddling brown sugar. Khan bought the contraband in Garhwa and sold it in Parwa and Daltonganj in Palamu. The drug network was linked to Bihar's Sasaram,” Ramesan said.

Anchit Kumar, another police official, said 54 gram brown sugar found in Khan’s possession was solidified while 9 gram was in powder form. “A sachet of brown sugar fetches Rs 2,700 rupees to the peddler,” said SP.
Sources said Garhwa district had no history of poppy cultivation unlike Palamu and Latehar districts but is was emerging as a transit route of drugs.
