PM Modi bids farewell to 37 retiring Rajya Sabha members, praises senior leaders
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday delivered a farewell address to 37 members retiring from the Rajya Sabha.
Speaking during the Budget Session at a farewell function held in the House, the Prime Minister praised senior leaders including H. D. Deve Gowda, Mallikarjun Kharge and Sharad Pawar.
He highlighted their decades of parliamentary experience, noting that they have dedicated a major part of their lives to legislative work. He urged younger members to draw inspiration from senior leaders.
The Prime Minister said that commitment, discipline and meaningful participation are essential for long public service and are important for the strength of democracy.
He also stated that there is no full stop in public life and described Parliament as an open university. He said this is a moment to rise above party lines and added that newly elected members should learn from their senior colleagues.
The Prime Minister further said that retiring members will continue to contribute to society in different roles outside the House.
