Police on alert, massive security deployment for peaceful Holi
Patna: Bihar Police have made extensive preparations for peaceful Holi celebrations . Additional director general (ADG) Pankaj Kumar Darad on Monday announced that Quick Response Teams (QRTs) will be deployed at the district and sub-divisional levels to tackle any untoward incidents.
The police have identified sensitive areas, particularly in districts like Arwal, Nawada, and Gaya, where traditional Holi celebrations like ‘Zhumta Jhulus’ are held. Extra police force will be deployed in these areas to maintain law and order , he said.
The police also issued guidelines to prevent hooliganism and disturbances during Holi. No procession or public gathering will be allowed without a proper licence. Loud music, especially obscene songs, will be strictly prohibited.
To ensure public safety, magistrates, police officers, and the Rapid Action Force will be deployed in sensitive areas. Hospitals have been advised to remain on high alert, and fire brigades will be stationed at key locations.
Darad said, “During Holi last year, 50 crime incidents took place. Of these, the highest number was in Rohtas (12), followed by Nawada (7), Patna (6), and Munger and Sitamarhi (2 each), along with similar incidents in other districts. In view of this, special vigilance has been directed at these places this year. The control rooms of all districts have been put on alert and linked directly to the police headquarters control room so that even the smallest incident can be monitored.”
In view of Holi, action has been taken since Feb. Preventive action under Section 126 of the BNSS was taken against 1,32,824 people. Proposals were sent to the DM for action against 265 persons under Section 3 of the CCA.
“In Feb, 5,459 accused were arrested in various cases, including murder (379), dacoity (63), robbery (146), SC/ST Act cases (309), kidnapping, and other offences. As many as 373 weapons and 2,186 cartridges were recovered during raids. During the recently conducted ‘S-Drive’, 94,674 vehicles were inspected. As many as 10,593 vehicles were issued summons, and Rs 158.32 lakh was collected. Besides, 1,918 wanted accused were also arrested. More than 53,000 litres of foreign liquor and more than 70,000 litres of country liquor were seized,” Darad said.
The ADG said to maintain law and order during Holi, 12 companies of the Regional Reserve Force, 35 companies of BSAP, 18,822 newly appointed trainee constables, 1,600 PTC trainees from the Bihar Police Academy located in Rajgir, 1,168 PTC trainees, 5,100 home guards, and three companies of CAPF would be deployed in different districts or locations as required.
Those found indulging in hooliganism or disturbing public peace will face strict action, he said.
