Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie have been told that they "can't win" despite receiving a major royal olive branch from King Charles. Beatrice, 37, and Eugenie, 36, are currently dealing with the fallout of their parents' connection to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The sisters were previously thought to have remained unaffected by the scandal, but reports have since suggested otherwise, with both of them reportedly banned from attending this year's Royal Ascot. The sisters have been pictured at the annual event multiple times, which is known to be a major event in the royal calendar.

The King, who is known to be very fond of his nieces, has since been said to have offered them an olive branch by extending an invitation to join him at this year's Ascot.

Senior royals - such as the Prince and Princess of Wales - have "continued to check on them," and according to reports in HELLO!, a friend of the sisters questioned whether they would wish to attend such a high-profile occasion.

They said: "The question is, would they want to go to a public event of that nature? They will get criticism whether they go or not, and not just that event. They just can't win."

Beatrice and Eugenie recently skipped the Royal Family's annual Easter Sunday service, although many of their family members were in attendance.

The sisters both attended Royal Ascot last year, and both were pictured with their husbands.

A source previously said they had spoken to a friend who works at Ascot and they said the princesses have been told they can't attend this year.

They told the Mail on Sunday: "Beatrice has taken it the hardest. She's been completely blindsided by all of this."

The sisters are thought to be missing a few royal events this year, although these have not been confirmed. These would include Trooping the Colour and the Buckingham Palace Garden Parties this summer.
