RAF Lossiemouth RECAP: 'Suspicious package' removed after bomb squad scrambled
A "suspicious package" has been removed from RAF Lossiemouth after a bomb squad confirmed it "contained nothing of concern". Bomb squads had been scrambled to the base in Moray, north-east Scotland after the alarm was raised at 11.25am earlier today (March 12).
Surrounding areas and roads had been cordoned off by police, with residents in nearby homes evacuated as a precaution. The RAF has now confirmed the incident is over and the cordon has been lifted. A spokesperson said: "The incident at RAF Lossiemouth has now ended. The EOD Team confirmed that the suspicious package contained nothing of concern and removed it from the scene. "The cordon has now been lifted with roads reopened and people returning to evacuated buildings. Thank you to the local authorities for their assistance, and the local community for their patience whilst we worked to resolve the issue."
