The accused has been identified as 19-year-old Omprakash alias Jani, who worked as a photographer. Police arrested him after a three-day search following the attack. During the investigation, Omprakash revealed that he had first seen the girl at a wedding where he was hired as a photographer.

What Sparked the Attack?

According to the police probe, Omprakash tried to contact the girl after the wedding, but she rebuked him and refused to speak. Feeling insulted, he decided to take revenge.

On the day of the incident, when the girl was walking to school, Omprakash allegedly threw a bottle of acid at her. Thankfully, the acid mainly affected her clothes and caused a burn injury to one finger, avoiding a more severe tragedy. However, the incident has raised serious concerns about safety and violence against young girls.

How He Tried to Escape Identification

The incident was captured on camera, but the accused had taken careful steps to avoid being identified:

  • He covered his face using a cloth and helmet

  • He wrapped the bike’s number plate with another cloth

This made it difficult for police to identify him immediately. Investigators had to scan multiple CCTV footage clips from the area before they could trace his route and identify him.

Police Investigation and Arrest

The police announced a reward of ₹25,000 for anyone providing information that could help locate the accused. After intense searching and reviewing CCTV footage, the police finally arrested Omprakash on Monday.

To send a strong message to the public and deter similar crimes, the police also paraded the accused through the local market, a move aimed at instilling fear of the law and showing that such crimes will not be tolerated.

The case is still under investigation, and further legal action is expected as the police continue to gather evidence and build their case. The incident has sparked debate about the safety of young girls in public spaces and the urgent need for stricter action against acid attacks.
