Ranchi SIT Raids Shaili Traders Factory Over Illegal Cough Syrup Sales, Seizes Documents
Ranchi: A special investigation team (SIT) on Tuesday raided three places in Ranchi district, including the factory of Shaili Traders and a residential apartment in Tupdana, in connection with illegal transactions and sales of cough syrup, and seized several incriminating documents.
Ranchi SP (rural) Praveen Pushkar, who is heading the SIT, informed that several documents, including blank cheques and orders from various shops, apart from an air gun, were seized in the operation.

Notably, the Ranchi SSP Rakesh Ranjan formed the SIT to investigate the illegal sale of cough syrups in the district. The SIT has been asked to collect information related to Shaili Traders, review the FIRs lodged at police stations after the seizure of cough syrups and take action against the persons concerned.
Earlier on Nov 2, Ranchi police seized 13,400 bottles of Phensedyl syrup worth around Rs 30 lakh during the checking of vehicles at the Tangabasli More under the Mandar police station. The raid was conducted based on a tip-off from the Uttar Pradesh crime branch about the movement of illegal cough syrup bottles. Two cases of a similar nature were also registered with the Tupudana police station.
In the Mandar case, police found that the cough syrup bottles were sent from Gaziabad in Uttar Pradesh. Such consignments had reached various parts of the state in the past as well, they said.
It may be mentioned here that the enforcement directorate (ED) had also carried out searches at 25 places across the country, including the factory of the Shaili Traders in Ranchi on December 12 and 13. The ED stated that the operations were carried out based on FIRs against a criminal syndicate engaged in illegal procurement, storage, diversion and sales of codeine-based syrup for non-medical and narcotic purposes.
