RDE auditor arrested for taking bribe
Bhubaneswar: Odisha vigilance officials on Tuesday evening arrested Ambika Prasad Rath , an auditor at the office of the regional director of education (RDE) in Bhubaneswar, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000 from a staff member of a degree college. The bribe was reportedly demanded for service verification and correction of pay fixation statements under the modified assured career progression (MACP) scheme.

Later at night, searches at Rath’s residence led to the recovery of Rs 28.70 lakh in unaccounted cash. “The auditor had demanded Rs 4,000 from the college staffer to facilitate drawl of pay under the MACP scheme . The staffer alerted us, following which a trap was laid and Rath was arrested. We also seized Rs 1.28 lakh from his office drawer, suspected to be bribes collected earlier in the day,” the vigilance department said in a statement.
