Red cabbage recipe so tasty Christmas dinner 'wouldn't be complete without it'
Everyone has their own favourite parts of a Christmas dinner, whether that be the turkey, roast potatoes, or pigs in blankets. However, no Christmas feast would be complete without a kaleidoscopic choice of side dishes.
Vegetables can be the jewels of the table, including a rich, deep red cabbage. Boiling cabbage can be dull, so recipe developer Amy Sheppard shared her innovative spin on the dish to take it to the next level. In a TikTok video from November, Amy said: "If you're looking for a Christmas Day side dish that's a little bit different. One that tastes amazing but is super easy to make, you have got to add this one to your list."
She continued: "It's a little bit sweet and a little bit tangy. We've had it with our roast for the last couple of weeks and it's just so good...and the leftovers are amazing in a ham and cheese toastie."
Amy wasn't just satisfied with using red cabbage, so she added red onion for an acidic twist. The recipe developer also includes some familiar Christmas flavours, using cranberry sauce, honey, and dijon mustard.
Amy's video has been viewed 73,900 times, receiving 2,251 likes and 41 comments, at the time of writing. Nisey said: "Look as good going to try this thank you."
One home cook suggested: "This would be lovely with grated apple in it."
Imane wrote: "Looks delicious definitely will try this out thanks for the recipe."
Another simply said, "This looks devine," while Jane commented, "Red cabbage is always on my dinners yummy yummy."
Lisa agreed: "I've never been one for red cabbage but might give this a try."
SweetSilly wrote: "Christmas tradition in Denmark. No christmas dinner without it. It also is used cold as a topping on cold cuts (on rye bread)."
