Remodelled vendor markets in city to have more shops, better amenities

Ranchi: The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) is planning a major revamp of its existing vendor markets and build new ones in city. The redevelopment is aimed at providing permanent vending spaces, easing congestion, and improving basic civic amenities at these commercial complexes.

At Bahu Bazar, one of Ranchi’s busiest trading hubs, RMC plans to replace the existing old shop structures with a G+1 modern model market. The proposed facility will include dedicated parking spaces, public toilets, wider access roads, and essential public utilities. Over 100 vendors will get permanent spaces for business.

“The objective is to create a proper market infrastructure where vendors get secure, permanent spaces and the area becomes more accessible and cleaner for the public,” RMC administrator Sushant Gaurav said.

In Ward 16 near Karbala Chowk, new shopping blocks and a small market zone will be developed at the existing civic office site. Besides organising commercial spaces, the structure is also expected to generate employment. Cleaning and upgrading of the nearby community toilet have also been planned to support the growing footfall.

Near NIFT College in Tupudana, the civic body plans to develop systematic shop lines on land cleared from encroachments. The plan includes the construction of proper pathways and preparation of a proposal for a new Labour Chowk, aimed at providing organised space for daily-wage workers and small traders.

In Edalhatu, RMC has proposed a larger commercial layout over a five-acre plot. The plan includes shuttered roadside shops along the main road and a well-defined internal vending zone, supported by boundary walls for protection and structured access points.
