HYDERABAD: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao on Saturday slammed the Congress government, claiming that Telangana’s revenue growth has dropped sharply under its rule. He said the state, which once recorded strong financial growth, is now seeing negative trends.

In a post on X, KTR referred to figures from the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), noting that Telangana’s revenue receipts had risen by 220% between 2014 and 2023 — from Rs 49,779 crore to Rs 1,59,349 crore. He pointed out that the growth has now slipped to -1.18% in 2024–25, and that the state has recorded only Rs 94,555 crore in revenue during the first seven months of 2025–26.

KTR questioned how the Congress administration could plan celebrations for completing two years in office when, according to him, the state’s financial health has worsened. He wrote, "Despite such an atrocious performance, it is unfathomable that Congress leaders are planning second anniversary celebrations A tragedy called Congress has befallen my state."

This criticism comes after his earlier remarks describing the Congress as the “permanent villain” in Telangana’s political history. He argued that the party had let down the people for decades and said the state’s formation would not have been possible without K. Chandrashekar Rao .

KTR also revisited the Telangana movement, recalling the sacrifices made, and reiterated that the state’s identity must be protected. He announced that the BRS plans to replace the Rajiv Gandhi statue at the Secretariat entrance with one of Telangana Talli to “restore the pride of Telangana”.

He further accused the Congress leadership of lacking the moral authority to comment on KCR’s 2009 fast. Calling the party responsible for the deaths of several youth during the agitation, he said, "Without the three letters K-C-R, there would be no Telangana."

KTR also challenged the ruling party to ask MLAs who joined Congress through defections to resign and seek re-election.
