Revenue officers demand written agreement to call off strike

Newspoint

Patna: The Bihar Revenue Service Association (BIRSA) on Tuesday criticised deputy CM Vijay Sinha for alleging land mafia connection behind the ongoing strike by the circle and revenue officers in Bihar. On the other hand, Sinha again asked them to call off strike or the govt will take stern action against them.

Sinha, who is also the revenue and land reforms minister, alleged that the working officials were being threatened and harassed. “Some people are trying to provoke those COs and revenue officers (ROs) who are working. The work that has been initiated in the public interest will be completed at all costs,” he said.

In a press statement, Bihar Revenue Service Sanyukt Sangh (BRSSS) said they want to call off strike in the larger public interest, if the minister translates into writing the verbal agreement reached after the meeting held on Feb 5. “In the meeting, we were clearly assured that all senior positions in the Bihar revenue service would be given to the BRS officers only and the process of reversing the cabinet decision to this effect would be initiated soon. In its decision taken by the state cabinet on Jan 29, 2026, the post of deputy collector of land reforms (DCLR) in the revenue service was reserved for the Bihar Administrative Service,” their statement reads.

The association also condemned threatening suspension and dismissal on trivial matters, using “indecent” language and mistreating the union representatives.

Meanwhile, the deputy CM said the ongoing special land survey in the state will be completed by Dec 2027. The govt believes that after this survey, land records will become completely transparent and digital, putting an end to years of bloody conflicts and litigation.

Sinha will chair a high-level review meeting in this regard on March 13 to identify the districts whose performance has been unsatisfactory so far.

According to sources, in the light of the recommendations received from the district magistrates, the department has accepted the resignations of five officers of the Bihar Revenue Service with effect from the past few days. Among the officers whose resignations have been accepted are former COs of Rajpur and Goraul and former ROs of Bikramganj, Parsa in Saran and Hajipur Sadar.
