RMC intensifies dog sterilisation, urges owners to register pets
Ranchi: The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has intensified sterilisation and vaccination drives for street dogs and also urged residents to register their pet dogs with the civicbody.
According to the latest survey, Ranchi has nearly 34,000 street dogs and around 25,000 pet dogs, but only about 2,000 pets are currently registered with the corporation.
Residents can register their pet dogs by paying Rs 100 per dog, after submitting documents including the dog’s photograph, the owner’s Aadhaar card and the latest anti-rabies vaccination record. The registration certificate remains valid for one year.
Meanwhile, the civic body is continuing its capture, sterilise, vaccinate and release programme for stray dogs. Dog-catching vans are operating across all 53 wards, covering public locations such as hospitals, the airport, railway stations and bus stands.
Between Jan 1 and March 10, a total of 439 stray dogs were captured, out of which 306 were sterilised, while the remaining 133 were treated and released in cases such as injuries or accidental conditions, officials said. In addition, over 700 dogs have been vaccinated against rabies across RMC limits.
