Saturday Kitchen viewers were unimpressed as the show kicked off with some toilet humour.

The BBC programme welcomed comedian Nish Kumar as a guest on Saturday, April 25 and he started by sharing a tale about a troll that left many viewers cold. Several fans of the cooking show posted messages on social media saying it was "not funny" and that they were switching over.

Nish launched into his story after he was introduced by host Matt Tebbutt, saying: "I'll tell you what, somebody is not thrilled (about him being on the show) because when they put up on Instagram that I was doing this show, a man commented underneath it and said, 'I will not be watching.' Thanks for telling us. He said, 'Kumar is as funny as needing to' and he didn't use this word, 'defecate and running up the stairs and not making it to the toilet and having to change your carpet.'

"What I would say is, that's the funniest thing I've ever heard of in my life."

He went on: "If you need to take a dump and you're running but you don't make it to the toilet and you take either such an explosive dump that it destroys your carpet by transcending your trousers and pants, or you've run to the toilet already having taken your trousers and pants off, that's the greatest compliment you could ever give a comedian."

"I'd love to be as funny as someone taking a dump," he said.

"I aspire to being as funny as following through on a fart," he added, as Matt roared with laughter.

However, many viewers were not impressed, with one posting a meme on X that said: "That is not funny."

"And it's a no from me," another person wrote on the platform, which was formerly Twitter. "Lovely discussion to start a cooking show," said someone else, as another viewer remarked: "Well I wasn't expecting two minutes of s*** talk from the off, things can only get worse!"

"Turning off Saturday Kitchen when they have Nish Kumar talking about (emoji)," said one person.

Somebody else asked: "Can't you put a re run of Football Focus on now just for this episode today."

"Switched off," said another, as one fan chimed in: "Snooker it is then."

Another said "'taking a dump' stories on a cooking programme is about as funny as root canal treatment without anaesthetic".

However, not everyone felt the same way, with one viewer insisting they were "enjoying" the comedian being on the show.

"Honestly, I'm loving Nish Kumar," commented somebody else.

Saturday Kitchen airs on BBC One.
