Shocking: Birthday Surprise Turns Violent As Youth Set On Fire Over Personal Dispute

In a disturbing incident from Mumbai’s Kurla area, a 21-year-old collegian was allegedly set on fire by his own friends after being tricked into attending a birthday celebration. What began as a seemingly harmless gathering quickly spiralled into a horrifying attack driven by personal enmity, according to police.

The victim, identified as Abdul Rehman Khan, was invited by his friends on Tuesday morning under the pretext of cutting a birthday cake. Trusting them, he arrived at the spot, unaware of what was about to unfold. After the cake-cutting, the group suddenly turned on him. They began pelting him with eggs and stones, mocking and assaulting him as part of a so-called “birthday prank.”

The situation escalated dangerously when one of the accused, Ayaz Malik, brought out a bottle of petrol he had reportedly kept hidden in his scooter. Ignoring Khan’s protests, Malik poured the fuel over him and set him ablaze using a lighter. The horrifying moment left Khan engulfed in flames as he desperately tried to save himself.

Burning and terrified, Khan ran toward a watchman’s cabin nearby and pleaded for water. The watchman immediately rushed to help him, and Khan was quickly taken to a hospital. He is currently undergoing treatment for serious burn injuries on his face, chest, and hands.

Police have arrested all five accused involved in the assault Ayaz Malik, Ashraf Malik, Kasim Chowdhary, Huzaifa Khan, and Sharif Sheikh. A case has been registered under Section 110 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita for attempt to commit culpable homicide.

Investigators believe the attack was not a prank gone wrong but a deliberate act rooted in personal rivalry. Further investigation is ongoing to determine the full motive behind this disturbing incident.
