Shocking Incident In West Bengal: Grandfather Arrested For Allegedly Raping 4-Year-Old Girl
A deeply distressing case has shaken West Bengal’s Hooghly district, where a man has been arrested for allegedly assaulting his four-year-old granddaughter. The accused, identified as the prime suspect, was taken into custody on Sunday, two days after the incident came to light near Tarakeswar railway station.
According to police sources, the victim’s family belongs to the nomadic Banjara community and had been taking temporary shelter near the railway station. On Friday, the child was reportedly resting beside her parents when she went missing. Moments later, her family found her injured and in a state of distress.
Panicked, the family took the girl to a nearby hospital for medical examination. Doctors confirmed that the child had been harmed, leading authorities to launch a full investigation. Sources said the family, frightened and confused, initially fled the hospital but later returned to file a formal complaint.
The police registered a case and began tracing those present in the area at the time of the incident. The absence of official identity documents for the family initially made the inquiry more challenging. However, through coordinated efforts, investigators identified the child’s grandfather as the main suspect and arrested him soon after.
Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the local police of mishandling the case, alleging that officers were slow to register the complaint. Party workers reportedly staged a protest late Friday night near the Tarakeswar police station, demanding immediate action and justice for the young girl.
Authorities have increased security in the area to prevent further unrest. Senior police officials have confirmed that the accused remains in custody and that a detailed investigation is underway to ensure accountability and justice.
