A chilling murder has shaken Bengaluru’s Uttarahalli area after a 65-year-old woman was found dead inside her home on Tuesday evening. The victim, Shrilakshmi, a homemaker, was allegedly killed by someone she knew. Police suspect robbery as the motive, as her mangalya (wedding) chain was missing from the spot.

According to the complaint filed by her husband, Ashwath Narayan, he left for work at around 9:30 a.m. and tried to contact his wife in the afternoon. When she didn’t respond to multiple calls between 2:15 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., he grew worried and contacted his tenant, Paniraj, asking him to check on her. Around 6 p.m., Paniraj’s wife went to the house and found Shrilakshmi lying motionless on the floor.

Ashwath rushed home immediately and, with the help of neighbours, moved her to the bed—only to discover she was already dead. He noticed visible injuries on her neck, lip, and face, and that her gold mangalya chain was missing.

Her elder sister, Sampathi Lakshmi, told police that she had spoken to Shrilakshmi earlier that day, around 1 p.m. During the conversation, Shrilakshmi mentioned that a couple had come home saying they wanted to check the television. That was the last time anyone heard from her. Police now suspect this couple could be directly involved in her murder and the robbery.

Based on Ashwath’s complaint, the Subramanyapura Police have registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Sections 103 (murder) and 311 (robbery or dacoity with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt).

Investigators are now reviewing CCTV footage from nearby buildings to identify the suspects. Police confirmed that there were no signs of forced entry, suggesting that the killers were known to the victim.

The brutal killing has left residents in shock, with neighbours describing Shrilakshmi as a warm, friendly woman. Authorities have increased patrolling in the area as the hunt for the culprits intensifies.
