Shocking Rooftop Explosion Kills Criminal and Mother While Preparing Bombs; Watch Video
A suspected bomb-making attempt on a rooftop in Cuttack’s Airfield area turned deadly, leaving two people dead and several others critically injured. A harrowing video of the explosion has now surfaced online, showing flames, panic, and chaos.
Sehnawaz Malik (26), a history-sheeter with multiple criminal cases, suffered severe burns in the blast on January 27 and died during treatment on February 4. His mother, Lizatun Bibi (51), who was also critically injured, succumbed to her injuries on February 10 at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
Malik’s fiancée, Truptimayee Mahal (23), and associate Amiya Mallick (27) remain under treatment in a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. Police said the four were seriously injured when crude bombs allegedly being assembled on Malik’s rooftop exploded.
“He had suffered serious burn injuries. He died in the afternoon,” said an officer from the Airfield police station.
Malik had a criminal history, including cases of attempted murder and violations under the Arms Act, and had been released on bail six months ago after a political clash in Nayapalli. He had been under police surveillance since his release.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted a preliminary inquiry but ruled out any links to terrorism or radicalization, though investigators continued to examine whether the incident was part of a larger conspiracy.
Forensic teams noted that highly explosive materials may have been involved. Preliminary findings suggested the possible use of hexahydro trinitro triazine (RDX), a compound commonly associated with high explosives, and further analysis is ongoing.
Immediately after the explosion, bomb disposal squads, fire personnel, and forensic teams rushed to the site, collecting remnants and seizing suspected raw materials. Residents of the rented three-storey building expressed shock, saying they were unaware of any illegal activity.
Police are investigating whether Malik acted alone or had accomplices, and whether the bombs were intended for criminal or political purposes. Authorities have increased vigilance in sensitive parts of the city following the incident.
Meanwhile, the video of the blast, showing flames engulfing the rooftop and chaotic scenes, is under verification as part of the ongoing investigation.
