Silchar social worker held for 'derogatory' remarks against judiciary & police
Silchar : A Silchar-based social worker was arrested on Thursday for allegedly making derogatory remarks against the judiciary and police during a social media live session, a move that triggered widespread outrage across the town.

Pandey had recently stirred a hornet’s nest after going live on social media, where she allegedly claimed that “courts and police take bribes to deliver justice.” The controversial remarks drew sharp condemnation from legal circles and civil society members in Silchar, eventually prompting law enforcement to take action.
Apart from the cyber-offence, the accused is facing multiple allegations of financial fraud. Several local women have accused Pandey of swindling money under the guise of social service. Complainants alleged that she collected funds from poor and distressed women on various pretexts.
Tension had been simmering prior to the arrest. On Wednesday, a group of women staged a protest outside the Cachar district commissioner’s office, demanding Pandey’s immediate arrest.
The protesters levelled serious charges against the social worker, alleging that she ran a “self-styled court” and conducted her own “judicial proceedings” to influence and intimidate vulnerable individuals. Police said an investigation into both the derogatory comments and the cheating allegations is underway.
