Fresh snow maps have warned of a two-day blizzard sweeping across parts of England in just 10 days time as the 17 counties are set to be hit. WXCharts model output showed heavy snow moving across the UK on February 16 and February 17.

According to the latest WXCharts forecast, models show snow spreading in from over the Irish sea as bands of the white stuff blow east across the UK, leaving their mark in northern and eastern areas of England as well as much of Scotland. The model suggests that snowfall will start develop on February 16 and continue into February 17, with the possibility of causing disruption - especially over high ground. Rain is forecast to move through the UK heading east on the night of February 16, where it will meet cold air with the first snow starting to fall at around midnight.

Areas in Suffolk, Norfolk, Lincolnshire, Yorkshire and the north east can expect to see flurries.

Through the night, the more southern areas of the band will blow through, but for Cumbria, Northumberland, Lancashire, North Yorkshire and much of Scotland, the snowfall will remain.

By the time the sun rises, many could wake up to around 10cm of settled snow, with the worst-affected areas in Scotland having to battle double that amount.

As temperatures rise throughout the morning, much of that snowfall will turn to rain as a band of wet weather moves across the UK.

However, as the sunsets and the mercury plummets, a belt of snow will begin falling over much of the midland, spreading north west and into Wales.

With the cold air holding on, any snow that falls is likely to linger, increasing the risk of icy conditions overnight and into the mornings that could spell black ice.

The snow signal broadly fits with the recent Met Office forecast, which has warned that February could still bring wintry weather, particularly when low-pressure systems interact with colder air across the UK.

In their long-range forecast, the national forecast said: "Predominantly cyclonic patterns are expected to dominate the UK.

"The early part of this period could see colder conditions becoming established more widely for a time, bringing with it the likelihood of some snow, primarily to the north and northeast.

"However, this should offer a few days respite from the wet weather across the south. By the end of this period, the track of Atlantic depressions may shift a little further north than during the last few weeks.

"This will maintain broadly unsettled weather, with further spells of rain and perhaps strong winds at times."
