Sonak recommended as Jharkhand chief justice

Panaji: Justice Mahesh Sonak of the Bombay high court has been recommended to be appointed chief justice of Jharkhand HC following the retirement of the incumbent chief justice on Jan 8.

The SC collegium, in its meeting on Thursday, recommended Sonak’s elevation along with three other judges as chief justices of high courts.

Born in 1964, Sonak completed his schooling at Don Bosco High School, Panaji. He earned a BSc from Dhempe College, and an LLB from M S College of Law, Panaji. He enrolled as an advocate with the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa in Oct 1988 and practised at the Panaji bench of the Bombay HC in civil and constitutional law, labour and service law, environmental law, commercial and tax laws, company law, and PILs.
