Sanjay Kumar, a meteorologist at the IMD in Patna, said summer temperatures this year are projected to exceed the normal 30-year average. He indicated temperatures may cross 40°C in April, though heatwaves are unlikely before May. Kumar advised people to remain hydrated and avoid unnecessary exposure to the sun. He also said farmers should harvest their rabi crops and store them safely to protect them from rising heat.

“Current instability in the upper atmosphere caused by cyclonic circulation is expected to increase cloud cover over the next 48 hours,” added Kumar. This system will result in rainfall across most districts on April 8 and April 9, leading to a temporary drop in temperatures. Temperatures are expected to rise again from April 11.

The IMD bulletin issued on Sunday forecast rainfall mainly in the north-eastern, south-western, south-eastern, north-central and south-central regions of the state. Districts identified for possible rainfall include Patna, Nawada, Araria, Purnia, Rohtas, Bhojpur, Jamui, Banka, Muzaffarpur, Sitamarhi and Buxar, among others.

Over the next week, the state’s maximum temperature is expected to hover between 30°C and 40°C, while the minimum temperature will range from 20°C to 26°C. On Sunday, the highest maximum temperature in the state was 38.2°C, recorded at Dehri in Rohtas, while the lowest minimum temperature was 19.7°C at Agwanpur in Saharsa.
