Temple theft accused held with silver crowns

Vadodara: The Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) on Sunday arrested a man allegedly involved in a series of temple thefts in the city.

The accused, identified as 25-year-old Rohit Barot, was nabbed from the Sardar Estate area following a tip-off that he was moving around with silver ornaments and looking for buyers.

Police said a team reached the spot and intercepted Barot.

During questioning, he failed to give a satisfactory explanation about the silver crowns found in his bag. Officers also recovered a silver ornament and a hammer from his possession.

During interrogation, Barot allegedly confessed to committing burglaries at temples in the Warasia area of the city as well as in Anand.

Police said Barot has a criminal history, with more than 11 offences registered against him at various police stations, including cases of burglary, theft, gambling and offences under the Prohibition Act.
