The Beckham's are doomed if Brooklyn fails to do one thing for Victoria
It's been a chaotic first few months for the Beckham family after Brooklyn's explosive 800-word statement on Instagram drew a line in the sand surrounding his relationship with his parents. But I think one tell-tale sign will officially show his true feelings about his parents for good. It had been widely speculated that cracks began to show in the family dynamic following his relationship with Nicola Peltz Beckham.
The couple began dating in late 2019 and confirmed their romance publicly a few months later in January 2020. Their whirlwind romance showed no signs of slowing down when the couple tied the knot in April 2022, which raised a few eyebrows within the family.
In the photographer's tell-all post in January, Brooklyn took to social media to accuse his parents of attempting to "ruin" his relationship with Nicola. He also alleged that his mother, former Spice Girl Victoria, had "hijacked" their first dance at this wedding.
Since then, tensions have remained high between Posh and Becks and Brooklyn and his billionaire wife. Despite his stern warning, the doting parents celebrated Brooklyn's 27th birthday earlier this month with two Instagram Story posts as a small olive branch to the budding chef, hoping to reconcile.
But it appears the heartfelt posts reopened old wounds with Brooklyn. Just days after his birthday, a source slammed his parents' affectionate posts and gave an insight into how the star felt about them behind closed doors.
A source told Entertainment Daily that Brooklyn was "disheartened" that his parents made a public post and hit out at the "performative actions that he's been trying to put an end to". They also added that he and his wife have been "trying to stay away" from it all and want to move on as a couple.
Whether this message came from Brooklyn himself, we'll never know, but it certainly sends a strong message to his family back in the UK. Watching this all play out in the public eye has been a weird form of entertainment for many Brits, as one of Hollywood's hottest families feels the burn of the spotlight for the first time.
But I think the most telling move will be if the businessman decides to acknowledge his fashionista mum on Mother's Day this weekend (March 15). After appearing to cut off his famous parents just a few months ago, will he stick to his word and remain silent when the annual holiday rolls around?
It certainly begs the question... what would it take for you to cut off your mum and dad? Could it be a few harsh words or some pointed comments on social media? Or something as simple as growing apart and wanting different things?
In Brooklyn's case, his estrangement from Sir David and Lady Beckham seems to have no end in sight. His account of his parents' strong desire to protect "Brand Beckham" calls into question the polished image of the family we've known for years.
It's hard not to see striking similarities between Brooklyn's family breakdown and that of Prince Harry's estrangement from the Royal Family. Really, all he's missing is a sit-down chat with Oprah Winfrey and a lucrative book deal.
We can only speculate what really happened behind closed doors that led to the family rift, but it is clear the separation is still a painful wound to his famous parents. Like many children from famous families, Brooklyn is obviously desperate to create an identity away from his famous parents' shadow.
He's not a famous footballer, or a fashion designer, or even a singer in a famous pop group. So, understandably, it was always going to be hard for Brooklyn to find his place in the world with such high expectations thrust upon him.
It's also apparent that both David and Victoria care deeply about their troubled son. Good parents always want what's best for their children, but no one really talks about the difficult family transition when their children transition into adulthood.
The need to navigate the world on their own terms and find their own passions can be hard to watch from the sidelines as parents. Right now, it seems that Brooklyn isn't interested in reconnecting with his parents. Hopefully, one day, they will be able to move on from all this.
