Three arrested with brown sugar in Hazaribag

Hazaribag: Police arrested three persons with brown sugar during a raid near Medhkuri Khud under Daru police station area in Hazaribag district on Friday.

According to deputy superintendent of police Prashant Kumar, Hazaribag superintendent of police Anjani Anjan received a tip-off that a few people were gathering near Babal Dham at Medhkuri Khud, consuming and trading illegal narcotic substances.

Acting on the information, a raiding team was constituted under the leadership of Vishnugarh sub-divisional police officer Vaidyanath Prasad. The team included Hazaribag headquarters DSP Prashant Kumar, Daru police station officer-in-charge Kapil Dev Singh, and other police personnel.

When the police team reached the spot, several people attempted to flee on seeing the police vehicle.

However, three persons were chased and apprehended by the police. The arrested accused were identified as Chandan Kumar Mehta alias Jogan Mehta, Shan Kumar Raj alias Chiku, and Manoj Kumar.

During a search, the police recovered about 3.43 grams of brown sugar, Rs 1,900 in cash, a digital weighing machine, and other items, including cigarette packs and currency notes allegedly used during the drug trade.

Kumar said a case was registered at Daru police station under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, 1985, and further investigation is underway.
