Gaya: Three young men died after being electrocuted by an 11KV overhead wire in Khaira village under the Khijersarai police station area in Gaya around 11am on Tuesday. According to the electricity department, negligence is believed to be the cause of the incident.

Manpur executive engineer of South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited (electricity supply division), Ajay Kumar, who conducted a spot inspection, said, “The incident took place when the victims were trying to cross the low-tension (LT) service wire over the 11KV Khijersarai rural feeder without any information to the department, which is illegal.”

He added, “Prima facie, one person threw the LT wire over the 11KV line and came in contact with the electric current. Two other men also came in contact while trying to save him, and the trio was electrocuted. No departmental HT or LT lines were broken during the incident, nor was the 11KV wire broken. This incident occurred due to the deceased’s own negligence.”

The victims were identified as cousins Nitish (27) and Golu (28), and another co-villager, Satyendra alias Raja (22). Villagers rushed the severely burned youths to Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College and Hospital. While two succumbed on the way to the hospital, one died during treatment. Relatives of the deceased have demanded compensation from the department.

“Although the fault of the department has not come to notice, if there is any provision for compensation, the same will be given,” the executive engineer said.
