Two men who raped a young woman at the same time in what a judge described as a "vile" and "dehumanising" attack have been jailed for a combined total of 22 years. Taylor Dove, 22, and Vieri Chapman, 25, carried out the assault after the victim rejected suggestions of having a threesome.

A jury found the pair guilty of rape following a trial at Newcastle Crown Court. Dove, of Balmoral Terrace, Sunderland, was sentenced to 12 years in prison, while Chapman, also known as Jevonni Copley, of Wansbeck Road, Gosforth, Newcastle, was jailed for 10 years. Both men must also sign the sex offenders register for life and were handed restraining orders. The court heard the victim was subjected to a degrading attack before Dove later bragged to a friend about what had happened. Dove was also convicted of raping another teenager while she was asleep and had been on bail for that offence at the time of the attack.

Chapman, also known as Jevonni Copley, denied rape but was found guilty by a jury of rape following the trial at Newcastle Crown Court.

The court heard that Dove, after subjecting his victim to the degrading attack then bragged about what he had done.

The victim said in a statement read to the court: "That night they dehumanised me and gave no regard to how I felt. I can't do justice to how it made me feel and how it continues to make me feel. This has had a huge impact on my personal life and relationships."

She added she struggled to talk about what happened to her "because it would make the awful things even more real".

"I believe they have only thought of themselves," she said. "I want them to understand what they have done.

"They have ruined what's supposed to be the most fun and carefree part of life."

Dove was also found guilty of raping the other victim while she slept.

That victim said in a statement: "Taylor Dove has destroyed my life. I only found the strength to report what he had done due to the fear he would do the same to someone else.

"I now have severe anxiety and depression and I get flashbacks to what he did. I feel anxious and my chest tightens as if he is on top of me.

"I've become a shell of the person I was. My life would be completely different if he had not done this.

"I don't believe he thinks what he has done is wrong and I don't believe he is remorseful."

Jamie Adams, for Dove, said he is "in denial about his guilt" and that "people around him think so highly of him". Mr Adams added: "He knows he has let everyone down by doing those awful acts.

"There's a good person inside here. He is going to be debilitated by this conviction for the rest of his life. This is not just some callous person."

Laura Miller, for Chapman, said he has autism and added: "He had a modelling contract and worked as a DJ. That's not a career he will ever be able to go back to because of this conviction."

Sentencing them at Newcastle Crown Court, Judge Julie Clemitson said: "That [victim] was violated in the most vile way by two men at the same time.

"She was shocked by what was happening to her. No wonder she was incapable of pushing you off or expressing verbally her lack of consent.

"Had you bothered to look at her, you would have noticed she was crying.

"You, Taylor Dove, were determined you were going to have the sexual experience with her that night and didn't much care whether she consented or not. No doubt, alcohol played a part.

"So, too, did a sense of entitlement and putting your own desires ahead of her right to choose whether to have sex and if so with whom.

"This was truly an ordeal for (her) which left her bleeding and distraught."

The judge added that the victim complained of what had happened to someone afterwards and addressed Dove by saying "while you, Taylor Dove, were bragging of your exploits to your friend".
