UK company with 72k staff proposes new £13.45 rule - decision expected in June

A UK company has announced its proposal to increase wages for its staff of more than 70,000.

Mitie is the UK's leading facilities management and professional services company. It has proposed to increase its standard wage from £12.60 to £13.45. The decision will be voted on by GMB union members and is expected to be announced in June.

The company proposed several changes for its staff: "Real Living Wage rates for ASO/Reception backdated to 1st Dec 2025; Maintenance of the Team Leader differentials; Two days additional pay to change the anniversary date from December to April and; 2.21% uplift for Managers.

Mitie was founded in 1987 and has offices based in London and throughout the rest of the UK and Ireland.

The company's main purposes are to manage workplaces, this includes offices, airports and hospitals. In doing so, they provide services such as cleaning, security, engineering, and energy consultancy. Mitie employs more than 77,500 people and supports both public and private sector clients, from the UK government to the NHS.

In a statement to its staff, Mitie added: "As we've already committed, the offer will be put to members in a ballot, with your GMB National LNC Reps happy to recommend the offer to members.

"As per our policy, we will aim to ballot as many members as we can, where you work, throughout May and into early June, with the ballot closing on Friday 12th June.

"We will look to communicate the result to the Company so that it can be included in the July payroll."

Union members can expect to hear about the pay increase decision in June.
