UK snow maps turn icy blue as -11C blizzards hit 20 regions

Chilly weather is set to hit the UK again, with maps turning icy blue and large parts of the country likely to be affected. From the start of the year, there's been continuous rain, snow, and cold temperatures, and even more wintry weather appears to be on the way.

WXCHARTS' maps predict which parts of the country could see snow on February 18. At midnight, temperatures will begin to drop, with the coldest weather expected in Scotland. Temperatures as low as -11C will be seen in the Cairngorms National Park. Across the rest of Scotland, temperatures will range from -2C to -7C. In the north of England, it will also be chilly with between 0 and -2C. The Midlands and the South of England will see temperatures of around 1C to 2C.

A snow depth map for 3pm on the same day shows that the highest levels will be in the Cairngorms National Park, with around 100cm of snow.

Across Wales, around 14cm of snow is expected in the north, with Northern Ireland to see small patches of around 5cm.

In England, the heaviest snowfall is expected to be in Stoke-on-Trent, with 11cm.

For this evening and tonight, a Met Office forecast says: "A clear and cold evening in the east, but a band of rain, sleet and mainly hill snow will move eastwards across the UK.

"Clear spells and showers following in the West where it will turn milder. Windy for many."

For Sunday, it adds that there will be a wet start to the day with outbreaks of rain and some snow.

It will stay unsettled through the day, but turning milder as blustery showers continue to move in from the West.

As for Monday to Wednesday, it says: "Sunny spells and heavy showers for Monday.

"A drier day on Tuesday with sunny spells, but rain arriving in the southwest later. Rain likely lingering in places through Wednesday."
