Viral Video: Delhi BJP MLA Slips Into Yamuna While Shooting Reel on 'Clean' River

Delhi BJP MLA Ravinder Singh Negi ’s attempt to showcase the “clean” Yamuna River took an unexpected turn, quite literally. While filming a reel ahead of Chhath Puja , the Patparganj legislator slipped and fell straight into the river he was praising.

The 19-second clip, now viral, shows Negi holding two bottles of water and saying, "paani pike dikhani hai (should drink the water and show),” how clean it is. But moments later, as he tried to stand up, he lost balance and toppled into the river. A man nearby rushed to help but couldn’t stop the fall. Negi managed to pull himself out by grabbing a wooden structure, drenched but unharmed.

The video gave political rivals fresh ammunition. AAP MLA Sanjeev Jha reposted the clip on X, mocking, “Making empty promises has become a profession for BJP leaders of the national capital.” He added sarcastically, "He has even surpassed the peak of lies. Perhaps, fed up with this politics of lies and pretense, Yamuna Maiyya has called him to her side herself."

The tumble comes amid an ongoing blame game between AAP and BJP over the Yamuna’s condition during Chhath Puja. AAP’s Saurabh Bharadwaj recently challenged the BJP-led government to prove the river is clean, daring CM Rekha Gupta and Minister Parvesh Verma to “drink a litre of Yamuna water.”

"The chemical that was sprayed by the previous Delhi government is being sprayed by the current government. If Rekha Gupta says the Yamuna is clean, I ask her and Parvesh Verma to come and drink a litre of Yamuna water. I will then be convinced it's clean," he said.

In response, BJP leaders accused AAP of wasting over ₹6,500 crore on failed clean-up projects during its rule.

What began as a publicity video has now turned into a full-blown political splash, with both sides trading barbs while the Yamuna continues to tell its own murky tale.
