The second season of what's been hailed as 'one of the best video game adaptations' is set to return, featuring both new and familiar faces.

Fallout's second season will be exclusively available on Prime Video. This live-action adaptation shares its name with the best-selling video game franchise it's based on.

The inaugural season was a resounding success, earning an impressive 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes at the time of writing. One fan enthused: "Perfect show. Great characters and great story."

Such was its popularity that one of the show's characters was incorporated into Fallout 76, the latest instalment in the game series. The upcoming season will continue from the dramatic conclusion of Season One, transporting audiences to the post-apocalyptic city of New Vegas.

So, who makes up the cast for the second season? Who's reprising their roles, and who are the newcomers? And where might you have seen them before?

Ella Purnell will reprise her role as Lucy. The London-born actress, now 29, had a standout year when the first season aired , reports the Mirror.

She also featured in the crime drama adaptation Sweetpea, lent her voice to Arcane and Invincible, and portrayed teenage Jackie in the 2021 psychological drama Yellowjackets.

The Ghoul, real name Howard Cooper, a decorated veteran turned film star, will once again join Lucy this season, portrayed by the acclaimed character actor Walton Goggins. Known for his riveting performances in The Shield, Justified, Tomb Raider, The Righteous Gemstones and Ant Man and the Wasp, Goggins is set to reprise his role.

Aaron Motem will also be returning as Maximus, a member of the Brotherhood of Steel. Motem has previously showcased his acting prowess in The Night of and Father Stu, where he starred alongside Mark Whalberg.

All characters are expected to be in pursuit of Kyle MacLachlan's Hank, Lucy's father, last seen heading towards New Vegas in stolen power armour. MacLachlan is a familiar face from Twin Peaks, the original Dune and How I Met Your Mother.

Back at Vault 33, viewers can anticipate catching up with Lucy's brother Norm, brought to life by Moises Arias. Arias, a former child actor, is known for his roles in Hannah Montana, The Wizards of Waverley Place and The Suite Life of Zack and Cody.

Season two will also see the return of Zach Cherry, known for his role in Severance, as Woody Thomas, a former Vault 33 councillor now residing in Vault 32. Johnny Pemberton, who has appeared in Superstore and 21 Jump Street, will reprise his role as Thaddeus, a former squire of the Brotherhood of Steel who may have lost his humanity.

The second season of Fallout is set to introduce a few fresh faces, though details about their characters remain under wraps. One confirmed change, however, is the recasting of a character from the previous season.

Robert House, a character originally from the game Fallout New Vegas, who made a brief appearance in the finale of the first season, will be portrayed by Justin Theroux in the upcoming series. The character will be depicted both pre and post-apocalypse, primarily appearing on a computer screen.

Theroux's past work includes roles in The Leftovers and Mulholland Drive, and he's also an accomplished writer, having written Tropic Thunder and Iron Man.

In another exciting casting announcement, Home Alone star Macaulay Culkin is set to join the cast in an as-yet-unnamed role, rumoured to be a 'mad genius-like character'. Fans were given a sneak peek of the former child actor, who appears almost unrecognisable.

Speculation is rife that he could be playing a member of the Caesar's Legion, a faction found in New Vegas.

Kumail Nanjiani is also slated to make an appearance, with his character seemingly linked to the Brotherhood of Steel. However, details regarding his character's name or their role in the main storyline are yet to be confirmed.

Nanjiani's acting credits include Silicon Valley, Eternals and the Star Wars spin-off miniseries Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Fallout season two is streaming on Prime Video from December 17.
