Ladki Bahin Yojana 2026: Is the Scheme Ending? Here’s the Truth
Amid growing chatter online, the future of the Ladki Bahin Yojana had many women in Maharashtra worried. Claims of the scheme being scrapped spread quickly, but the government has now stepped in with a firm clarification.
Scheme Will Continue, Says Minister
State minister Hasan Mushrif has dismissed all rumours about the scheme being discontinued. Despite financial pressure, he confirmed that the initiative will continue to support women. He also rejected reports linking the scheme to delays in government salaries, calling such claims baseless. Mushrif said, “Maharashtra is a progressive state, and this scheme will continue to support women.”
Strict Checks Lead to Account Closures
The government has taken a major step by closing nearly 68 lakh beneficiary accounts. The primary reason? Failure to complete mandatory e-KYC within the deadline. As a result, active beneficiaries have now reduced to around 1.75 crore.
This move is part of a larger verification drive initiated under Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The aim is to ensure only eligible women receive the benefits. Authorities found cases where ineligible individuals, including government employees and even men, had accessed the scheme.
₹1,500 Monthly Support Continues
Despite tighter rules, the financial support remains unchanged. Eligible women will continue to receive ₹1,500 every month. The government currently spends nearly ₹3,700 crore monthly on this scheme.
However, the annual budget has been revised. While ₹36,000 crore was allocated for 2025-26, it has now been reduced to ₹26,000 crore for 2026-27.
