According to Khan , the confrontation began when a woman passenger, reportedly wearing a Hyundai-branded shirt, told him he should know Marathi because he was flying to Mumbai. “She told me, ‘You’re going to Mumbai, you should know Marathi,’” Khan recalled in a video shared on his Instagram handle ‘Mahinergy’.

When he explained that he did not speak the language, the woman allegedly threatened him, saying, “Get down in Mumbai and I’ll show you misbehaviour.”

Khan remained calm and reported the incident to the flight crew. “Kya badtameezi hai yeh (what kind of rudeness is this)?” he asked, to which the woman allegedly replied, “I’ll show you what badtameezi is.” Khan captured the exchange on his phone, stating that the issue was not just personal but reflective of a growing intolerance. “You cannot force a language. You cannot bully respect,” he said.

The video quickly gained traction online, dividing opinion. While many users condemned the woman’s remarks as aggressive and intolerant, others defended her stance as an expression of regional pride. Khan has since urged Air India to take strict action against passengers who make others feel unsafe, suggesting that such individuals could even be banned from future flights.

Air India crew members intervened to defuse the situation, but no formal action has been reported against the woman. Khan described the incident as disturbing, saying, “Yes, this happened in 2025 in a country that proudly says ‘Unity in Diversity’. She sat on seat 16A and started shouting that I have to speak in Marathi because I’m flying to Mumbai.”

The situation has also raised concerns about professionalism, as the woman was identified as an employee of Hyundai . So far, neither Air India nor Hyundai has released an official statement.

Concluding his post, Khan said, “I recorded everything because this isn’t just about me, it’s about the mindset that’s growing dangerously normal.” The episode continues to fuel debate online about linguistic respect, cultural sensitivity, and the limits of personal freedom in public spaces.
