Bowling Problems Add Pressure

KKR already struggles with their bowling unit. Mustafizur Rahman has been ruled out of IPL 2026, while Harshit Rana is also dealing with an injury. Pathirana becomes essential for the team because of this situation. He excels at performing his duty during death overs which represents a crucial element of T20 cricket competition.

KKR has secured Blessing Muzarabani as their backup signing. The team prefers to have Pathirana available for the entire season despite his recent good form.

Pathirana made his IPL debut in 2022 and quickly became an important player. He fulfilled his role as one of the main bowlers for Chennai Super Kings before he joined KKR. His IPL 2023 performance achieved impressive results as he took 19 wickets across 12 games. He maintained an acceptable economy rate.

He maintained his impressive performance in IPL 2024 by taking 13 wickets in six matches. He has played 32 IPL matches and took 47 wickets. His bowling style is often compared to Lasith Malinga because of his unique action. He has been a trusted bowler in the final overs.

Tough Start Awaits KKR

KKR will begin their IPL 2026 campaign on March 29. Their first match will happen against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium. Ajinkya Rahane commands the team which needs to start powerfully. The situation becomes challenging because Pathirana remains uncertain.

KKR fans are hoping for a quick solution. The team will receive a strong advantage if Pathirana arrives at the team. The team will require other bowlers to fill his position in case he remains absent.

The final decision rests with Sri Lanka Cricket as all attention focuses on their announcement.
