IPL 2026: Virat Kohli eyes huge milestone to go past KL Rahul in RCB vs MI Clash
Virat Kohli is on the verge of breaking another Indian Premier League record as Royal Challengers Bengaluru prepare to face Mumbai Indians in IPL 2026 at the Shaheed Veer NarayanKL Rahul Singh International Stadium in Raipur.
The team’s batting core still relies on Kohli who continues his role after stepping down from RCB captaincy. The senior batter has once again shown excellent form this season and remains RCB’s leading run-scorer.
RCB defeated Mumbai Indians earlier this season in the reverse fixture played in Mumbai. Kohli now has a rare opportunity to achieve another major milestone which will add to his extensive collection of IPL records.
Kohli enjoying another strong IPL season
Virat Kohli has scored 379 runs in 10 matches in IPL 2026 so far. He is currently among the top run-scorers of the season and has already scored three half-centuries.
The previous match saw Kohli receive a duck but his overall performance has been excellent. He is averaging 47.37 this season and has scored runs at a strike rate of 164, showing that he has balanced consistency with aggressive batting.
Kohli has always enjoyed batting against Mumbai Indians. He has 972 runs against MI in 36 IPL matches which includes seven fifties. The 2018 season saw him achieve his highest score against them when he finished with an unbeaten 92.
The former RCB captain has often played match-winning knocks against the five-time champions and will once again be expected to lead the batting unit in this important game.

Two massive milestones waiting for Kohli
Virat Kohli needs six more runs to achieve the record for most runs scored against Mumbai Indians in IPL history.
If Kohli scores at least six runs in Raipur, he will move ahead of KL Rahul and take the number one position on the list.
The RCB batter has another significant record to achieve. Kohli needs only 28 runs to complete 1000 IPL runs against Mumbai Indians. If he reaches the mark, he will become the first batter in IPL history to score 1000 or more runs against MI.
The achievement would mark a special career milestone for Kohli since he has achieved 1000-plus IPL runs against five different teams.
RCB looking to bounce back strongly
The RCB team achieved an excellent start to IPL 2026 but their performance has declined after two consecutive losses. The defending champions have now slipped to fourth place in the points table, making the playoff race tighter.
The team would now turn to seasoned cricketers like Virat Kohli for inspiration to get back into winning form.
Kohli would try to lead RCBto a vital win for himself while pursuing his historical feat against Mumbai Indians as expected by his fans.
