The rationale is straightforward. The EWS Result 2026–27 merit list is to be released in three phases — the second list following the first, and the third covering details of vacant seats. Online Result Portal The second draw is designed to fill seats left unoccupied after the first round, and can only be conducted once it is clear which seats have fallen vacant owing to non-reporting or document rejection during the verification stage.

Why April 22 is the earliest likely date
Document verification for first-draw selected candidates is being conducted between April 9 and April 22, 2026. Applicants who miss this window will be given a final opportunity between April 23 and April 28, 2026. NewsX Since the second draw is contingent on vacancies emerging from this very process, its release before the primary verification window closes would be premature. The April 20 figure cited in some reports appears to be speculative rather than drawn from any official communication by the DoE.
