Fast-track immigration in India: Eligibility, registration and key details explained
India’s Fast Track Immigration-Trusted Traveller Programme ( FTI-TTP) is now available across 13 airports, allowing eligible passengers to skip long queues and clear immigration through automated e-gates.
Launched by the Bureau of Immigration under the Ministry of Home Affairs, the programme is aimed at speeding up immigration clearance using biometric verification. The facility is currently operational at airports in Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kochi, Lucknow, Amritsar, Calicut, Thiruvananthapuram and Tiruchirappalli.

The scheme enables pre-verified travellers to complete immigration through a contactless system at both departure and arrival.
Who is eligible
The programme is open to Indian citizens and foreign nationals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cards.
Applicants must be above seven years of age and should not hold an Emigration Check Required (ECR) passport. They must also ensure that their passport has at least six months’ validity at the time of application.
Membership is valid for up to 10 years or until the passport expires.
How to register
Applicants must register on the official portal and complete identity verification through mobile OTP and email authentication.
They are required to upload a passport-size photograph and scanned copies of their passport and OCI card, where applicable. After submission, the application is verified by authorities.
The Bureau of Immigration states, “Applicant found eligible, will need to provide Biometrics (fingerprint and face image) in addition to required information as per data fields provided in the application form.”
Once approved, applicants must complete biometric enrolment at a Foreigners Regional Registration Office or at designated counters at international airports. The process may take up to one month.
How it works at airports
Registered passengers can use dedicated e-gates at immigration checkpoints. They need to scan their passport and boarding pass, followed by facial recognition to complete the process.
Passengers using the e-gates will not receive immigration stamps, and their travel records will be available digitally.
Key features
The programme is free of cost for eligible applicants.
Authorities state, “Fast Track Immigration - Trusted Travellers' Programme (FTI-TTP) is extended as a gratis service to the eligible applicants, and no application fee is levied for enrolment under this programme.”
Applications can be rejected if incorrect information is submitted or documents do not meet required specifications. Travellers can also be suspended from the programme if required by law enforcement agencies.
The expansion of FTI-TTP across multiple airports is expected to reduce congestion at immigration counters and improve passenger movement, especially for frequent international travellers.
