Thailand in grip of heatwave: What tourists should know before travelling

Newspoint
Thailand is facing extreme heat conditions with temperatures reaching up to 40°C, along with rising PM2.5 pollution levels across several regions, according to the Thai Meteorological Department.

The department said upper Thailand will experience generally hot to very hot weather, with hazy skies during the day and isolated thunderstorms, as a heat-induced low-pressure system and weak winds limit rainfall and air circulation.

What should tourists know

Tourists travelling across Thailand should expect daytime temperatures between 37°C and 40°C in the North, Northeast and Central Plains, with hazy conditions affecting visibility and air quality.

In Bangkok and nearby areas, temperatures are expected to range between 35°C and 39°C with persistent haze during the day.

Air quality has worsened in the North, Northeast and upper Central Plains, where PM2.5 levels have risen above safe limits due to poor air circulation and a high number of hotspots linked to seasonal burning.

Authorities have advised people to avoid prolonged outdoor activity, stay hydrated and remain alert for isolated thunderstorms.

Travellers are also advised to avoid outdoor exposure where possible and wear N95 masks when outside in areas with high pollution levels.
