This bridge course will save the jobs of 35,000 teachers in Uttar Pradesh; register by December 25th..
A major change has been announced for teachers with B.Ed qualifications working in government schools in Uttar Pradesh. In compliance with a Supreme Court order, all such teachers will now be required to complete a six-month bridge course. This decision will provide relief to approximately 35,000 teachers in the state, as their appointments will be considered valid after completing the course. Following this, Basic Education Director Pratap Singh Baghel has issued instructions to all District Basic Education Officers to ensure the timely registration of B.Ed-qualified teachers working in their respective districts. This six-month Primary Teacher Education (Bridge) course will be conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) in Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode.
The last date for registration for this course is December 25, 2025. Teachers can apply for registration on the website http://bridge.nios.ac.in. In case of any technical difficulties, assistance can be obtained via email at bridgesupport@nios.ac.in.
Bridge Course to Cost Rs. 25,000
NIOS has set a registration fee of Rs. 1,000 and an examination fee of Rs. 24,000 for the bridge course. This means the total cost will be approximately Rs. 25,000. The bridge course includes subjects such as Child Development and Educational Psychology, Curriculum and Pedagogy, Assessment, Language Teaching, Mathematics Pedagogy, Environmental Studies, and School Experience. This will be a 20-credit course.
The Supreme Court Issued the Order
Previously, the B.Ed qualification was deemed invalid for teaching classes 1 to 5. In the Anshuman Singh vs. NCTE case, the Supreme Court, on April 8, 2024, ordered that a bridge course be conducted to retain the services of already appointed B.Ed teachers. The Supreme Court clarified that the services of such B.Ed teachers appointed before August 11, 2023, whose appointments were made under the rules, will be secure, but they must complete this bridge course without fail. Failure to complete the course within the stipulated time will render the concerned teacher's appointment invalid.
