Akshaye Khanna-Suniel Shetty Reunion in Border 2 Post-Credits Wins Hearts

Border 2 is proving to be more than just a high-octane war drama it has become an emotional bridge between generations of fans who grew up watching JP Dutta’s 1997 classic Border. While the film is drawing praise for its scale, action and patriotic fervour, it is the post-credits sequence that has truly elevated the experience and sparked widespread conversation online.

The surprise appearances of Akshaye Khanna and Suniel Shetty in the post-credits scene have delivered a powerful dose of nostalgia. The sequence reunites characters from the original Border to honour soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the nation. Amid the buzz, speculation arose over whether Akshaye Khanna’s cameo was added after the success of his recent film Dhurandhar . Addressing the rumours, the makers clarified that the cameo was always part of the plan. In a chat with News 18, co-producer Bhushan Kumar said, “You can’t make a film like that. It was already scripted. In fact, we shot his portion after Dhurandhar released. The hysteria of the film and Akshaye was already there but we never thought of [profiting from] it. It was never required in the script. It’s not like we added him after Dhurandhar released.”

Director Anurag Singh echoed the same sentiment, stressing that the scene was conceived as a tribute from the very beginning. He said, “We shot his part on December 10-11. Akshaye is in Border 2 as a tribute to Border. He was a part of the story from the very beginning. And those who stay back after the film ends will get the golden nugget.”

Beyond the emotional highs, Border 2 is also delivering strong numbers at the box office. The Sunny Deol and Varun Dhawan-starrer has collected ₹180 crore net (₹212.5 crore gross) in India over its extended opening weekend. The Anurag Singh directorial has emerged as Sunny Deol’s second-biggest opening and Varun Dhawan’s biggest opening ever, underlining its massive appeal.
