Sudha Chandran Reacts to Trolls Over Viral Jagran Video: “I Am Not Here to Justify”

Actor Sudha Chandran recently found herself at the centre of an online discussion after videos from a religious gathering (jagran) went viral on social media. The clips showed the veteran actor visibly overwhelmed and appearing to be in a trance-like state during the devotional event. While many viewers resonated with her emotional response, others dismissed the episode as “fake” and “drama,” triggering heavy online trolling.

Reacting to the backlash, Sudha Chandran made it clear that she has no intention of justifying her faith or emotional expression. In an interview with Zoom, the actor said that devotion is a deeply personal matter and that she neither judges nor criticises anyone else’s beliefs. Addressing the trolls directly, she stated, “I am not here to justify. I have my perception towards life. I have certain connections that I respect. Mujhe logon se koi lena dena nahi hai. Joh troll karte hai, acchi baat hai, khush rahe apne zindagi mein (I don't care about those people. The ones who are trolling, good for them. Be happy).”

Sudha further added that what truly matters to her are the people who felt connected to her experience. “What about those millions of people who could connect and resonate with it? Mere liye woh important hai (For me, that is important),” she said, emphasising that she is not answerable to online criticism. Calling herself a self-made woman, the actor said she will continue to live her life with dignity, respect and faith in the divine.

Reflecting on her personal journey, Sudha Chandran said public opinion has never dictated her choices. “In my life, I have never thought about log kya bolenge,” she said, recalling how even after her life-altering accident, people questioned her decisions. “Lekin jab wahi ek success story ban jata hai, log usi ke baare mein charcha karte hai,” she added, pointing out how criticism often fades once perseverance turns into success.

The viral jagran videos, which surfaced earlier this week, showed Sudha in a red and white saree with a headband reading Jai Mata Di. As the bhajan continued, she appeared emotionally overwhelmed, jumping around the hall and losing control of her movements. Some attendees were seen trying to restrain her as she experienced the intense devotional moment.

In recent years, Sudha Chandran has gained renewed popularity for her role as Yamini Raheja in the first two seasons of Naagin. She has also been part of popular television shows such as Yeh Hain Mohabbatein, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, and Mata Ki Chowki: Kalyug Mein Bhakti Ki Shakti, among others.
