Bollywood Legend Rekha On Her Mother’s Advice: Never Lose The ‘Twinkle In The Eyes’

New Delhi: The legendary Indian actress Rekha looked stunning in a golden outfit on the cover of Vogue Arabia . She also shared her mother’s influence on her in the magazine interview.

Rekha is the daughter of two famous South Indian actors, Gemini Ganesan and Pushpavalli . She said, “My mother was my mentor, a woman of such finesse she felt like a goddess, a devi. She taught me the grace of living with gentility and love. She always said I should never lose the ankh ki chamak, or ‘twinkle in the eyes,’ because it is that joyful perception that makes one appreciate the beauty of a tiny seed that grows into a majestic tree. She also advised me wisely to practise what I love, not what I preach. She set the benchmark for me because my mother walked the talk.”

During a recent interview, the actress emphasised the valuable lesson her mother taught her about the importance of authenticity. She revealed that her childhood home was a place where various forms of artistic expression were cherished, including Sufi music, Urdu shayari (poems), Chettinad art and the vibrant culture of South India.


Rekha expressed how her mother's lifestyle embraced a commitment to natural living, avoiding synthetics and plastics while adorning herself in pure organic fabrics. This profound appreciation for aesthetics has profoundly influenced Rekha and continues to resonate with her.
