Border 2, released during India’s Republic Day weekend on 23 January 2026, marks the return of India’s most beloved war saga to the big screen, nearly three decades after the original blockbuster hit. Directed by Anurag Singh and produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, J. P. Dutta and Nidhi Dutta under the banners of T-Series Films and J. P. Films, the epic war drama expands its predecessor’s scope to include all arms of the Indian Armed Forces: Army, Air Force and Navy.

The film stars Sunny Deol at the forefront, supported by Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty in key roles, along with Sonam Bajwa, Mona Singh and Medha Rana in pivotal parts. Set during the 1971 India-Pakistan war, Border 2 brings larger-than-life combat sequences to audiences with a mix of aerial, land and sea warfare, aiming to honor soldierly courage and sacrifice.

Critics and peers have applauded the film’s emotional depth and performances, praising it as a worthy continuation of a historic legacy. Actor Neil Nitin Mukesh described Border 2 as a narrative that carries “heart and honour,” commending both the cast’s portrayal and the director’s vision.

Commercially, Border 2 has been a blockbuster. It grossed over ₹440 crore worldwide, making it one of the top Hindi releases of 2026 and cementing its place on the list of highest-grossing Bollywood films post-pandemic. Despite entering its fourth week with diminishing daily earnings, the film’s overall box-office tally stands as a testament to its wide appeal and patriotic fervor.

The movie has also made cultural impacts beyond ticket sales: school screenings have introduced younger audiences to historical wartime narratives, blending education with entertainment.

With music that recalls and reimagines classics from the original and battle sequences shot across real military locations, Border 2 delivers cinematic spectacle alongside respect for the sacrifices of servicemen and women.
