Coolie may premiere on OTT in Sepytember
Coolie OTT release update: Rajinikanth’s
hit the screens on August 14 and opened to a sensational response at the box office. The film also received decent reviews from most critics. Amid this, trade analyst Ramesh Bala told Indiatimes that the gangster drama is likely to premiere on OTT eight weeks from the day of its release. Prime Video acquired its digital rights even before it hit screens. As such, one can expect it to premiere on the platform by September 15.
is a gangster drama directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. It marks the
director’s first collaboration with Rajinikanth. The film features the mass hero as Deva, a former smuggling kingpin who tries to relive his glory years by bringing back his old gang. This, of course, has major consequences. The film has pretty much everything– right from action scenes to punch dialogues, that one expects from a commercial action drama.
Coolie stars Shruti Haasan as the leading lady and is one of the biggest films of her career. The cast includes Kannada star Upendra, Telugu legend Nagarjuna, Mollywood’s Soubin Shahir, and
actor Sathyaraj. Aamir Khan has a cameo in the film. Anirudh Ravichander serves as the music director.

has received mixed reviews with critics lauding the performances but panning the screenplay. India Today gave the film 2 stars out of 5 and highlighted that Rajinikanth’s screen presence elevated the film.
“Director Lokesh Kanagaraj’s ‘Coolie’ is an underwhelming entertainer that suffers from overstuffed ideas. Rajinikanth's screen presence and Anirudh Ravichander’s music save the film from drowning,” read the review.
Despite this,
packed a punch at the global box office. It earned Rs 151 crore on the first day and became the highest opener in Tamil cinema’s history. It remains to be seen if it manages to keep the momentum going today (August 15).
