Janhvi Kapoor has been serving one stunning look after another while promoting her upcoming rom-com Param Sundari. From vibrant saris to elegant lehengas, her recent fashion choices seemed to mirror her character Sundari, a half-Tamil, half-Malayali girl from Kerala. But for the film’s special screening last night, the actor broke away from her traditional streak and surprised fans with a bold and experimental outfit that instantly lit up social media discussions.

A Dazzling Shift from Ethnic Glam

Instead of the expected ethnic glamour, Janhvi opted for a fun, fusion-inspired ensemble. She wore a shimmery orange sequin mini-skirt, paired with a casual white T-shirt that cheekily declared, “I’m coconuts about you.” Adding a playful twist, she accessorised with colourful bangles in pink, orange, and green, along with a waist chain. Her choice of green heels further amped up the quirky vibe.

The look, equal parts glitzy and whimsical, was a complete departure from her recent desi avatar. And while some found it refreshing, others felt it was “too much” for the occasion.

Internet Divided: Fun or Over the Top?

Within minutes, pictures of Janhvi’s look went viral, with netizens sharing their unfiltered takes. Critics compared her to“it's giving one very specific newly married bride on her overseas honeymoon who still wants to look traditional. mummy ji approved,” One witty comment read, “Average bahu in Maldives for honeymoon.” While another described it as “One is overly dressed like a girl on honeymoon who wears bangles to look mummy ji approved and the other one is dressed like a normie millennial who is going to hang out with his guy friends at a mall in 2017.”

On the flip side, several fans loved her daring choice. A user gushed, “I like it . What's wrong with this ?! She is just trying something new.” Another said, “I think she looks good and kinda like her experimenting. On the other side, Sid looks boring like always.🙂”Many agreed she looked naturally beautiful and praised her for stepping outside the safe zone of mainstream Bollywood fashion.

The Sid Factor: Minimalism vs Maximalism

Janhvi’s co-star Sidharth Malhotra, who plays the Delhi Punjabi boy Param in the film, chose to keep things simple. Dressed in a royal blue corduroy shirt and basic denim jeans, his understated style stood in sharp contrast to Janhvi’s vibrant ensemble. This contrast didn’t go unnoticed, with one netizen joking, “She looks like a bride on honeymoon, and he looks like a millennial guy heading to the mall in 2017.”

Beyond the Fashion Talk: Film Buzz

While her screening outfit sparked endless memes and debates, the bigger takeaway from the evening was the reception of Param Sundari. Directed by Tushar Jalota and produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films, the rom-com follows the love story of a Punjabi boy from Delhi (Sidharth) and a South Indian girl (Janhvi). Early reviews describe the film as lighthearted, fun, and a total crowd-pleaser. Released on August 29, the movie is already generating positive word of mouth.
