Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh has become the centre of a serious law-and-order investigation after receiving a threatening voice message demanding ₹1 crore via WhatsApp. Initial inquiries suggested the message could be part of an extortion attempt but the case took a notable turn when law enforcement traced the audio to connections with India’s underworld.

Police from the Mumbai Crime Branch have made significant progress in their investigation, identifying the voice in the threatening note as Harry Boxer, a figure believed to be associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang , a criminal network notorious for extortion and intimidation tactics. Authorities are now analysing the voice note through forensic tests to confirm its authenticity and Boxer’s role in the incident.

The WhatsApp warning allegedly arrived shortly after a separate incident - a firing outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence - and heightened concerns across the entertainment community about targeted threats against high-profile celebrities. In response to the extortion demand, security measures around Ranveer Singh’s residence have been bolstered as a precautionary step.

Officials believe the message was transmitted through a Virtual Private Network (VPN), which obscured its origin and suggested possible overseas routing. To trace the digital trail conclusively, investigators have reportedly sought assistance from Interpol, indicating the cross-border complexity of the case.

In a related development, statements have been recorded from the managers of Ranveer Singh and another actor, Aayush Sharma, who reportedly received a similar threat via email. Though formal First Information Reports (FIRs) are yet to be registered, police continue to treat the matter with urgency and diligence.
