Manju Warrier has publicly responded to the outcome of the 2017 assault case involving a fellow actress, following the recent verdict delivered by a Kerala court. Nearly a week after the decision, she shared a strongly worded statement on Instagram, saying that while she respects the court’s judgment, justice for the survivor remains incomplete as not all those responsible have been held accountable.

In her note, Warrier said that only the individuals who directly committed the crime have been punished, while those allegedly involved in planning it have faced no consequences. Calling the situation “terrifying,” she stressed that justice can be considered complete only when every person involved is brought to account. She added that her thoughts were not limited to one survivor, but extended to every woman and every individual who deserves to live without fear at work, on the streets and in everyday life.

Warrier’s comments came after the Ernakulam Principal Sessions Court acquitted Malayalam actor Dileep earlier this month, citing insufficient evidence to establish his role in the alleged criminal conspiracy. While several other accused were convicted, the court ruled that the prosecution failed to conclusively prove Dileep’s involvement.

The assault took place in February 2017, when the actress was forcibly abducted inside her car by a group of men and held against her will. Multiple accused were arrested and tried on charges including abduction, sexual assault and criminal conspiracy.

Manju Warrier’s statement has reignited public discussion around the verdict and the broader challenge of ensuring justice in cases involving influential figures. She emphasised that the legal system must function in a way that identifies and prosecutes not just the perpetrators, but also those who enable or plan such crimes. According to her, true justice lies in safeguarding the rights and dignity of survivors.

Her response also drew attention to the emotional toll the case has taken on many people over the years. The 2017 incident and the subsequent trial had drawn widespread public attention and had sparked conversations about accountability, gender violence and the challenges survivors face in seeking justice through the courts.

Warrier’s words resonated with many who have called for reform and transparency in how sexual assault cases are handled. She underlined that survivors must be able to walk through daily life without fear, and that the broader society must work toward an environment where prosecution and conviction extend beyond only those who physically commit crimes.
