"Too Good Looking for the Role”: Nakuul Mehta Recalls His Strangest Bollywood Rejection
Television star Nakuul Mehta , widely recognised for hit shows like Ishqbaaaz and Pyaar Ka Dard Hai Meetha Meetha Pyaara Pyaara, recently opened up about an unusual rejection he faced early in his career. In a candid interview with News18, the actor revealed being turned down by a prominent producer-director of a major Hindi film for a reason that left him puzzled.
Nakuul shared that he was nearly finalised for a sequel to a popular film. According to him, all formalities had been completed - photos were shot and dates locked. However, while attending an acting workshop, he received an unexpected call from the filmmaker.
“The weirdest thing had happened. There was this once very popular producer and director. I was slated to do a sequel to a really beautiful film with him. Everything was done. We shot pictures and got the dates. I was at an acting workshop when he called and told me, ‘I was thinking about it. I think you’re too good-looking for the part, ya,’” Nakuul said.
The actor added that he was left baffled by the explanation, especially since the role was of a Rajkumar from Rajasthan. “I kept thinking, what does my look have to do with the character I was supposed to play? Then I realised that he didn’t have a better excuse to give. I didn’t know what to make of that,” he shared.
Nakuul also mentioned that the film never went into production and revealed that the director later ended up in jail, adding another layer to the bizarre series of events surrounding the project.
