Ranveer Singh Issues Apology as Kantara Mimicry Faces Criticism: 'Intention Was To Highlight His Performance'
Ranveer Singh unexpectedly walked into controversy after what he believed was a fun, harmless moment onstage at IFFI Goa. A playful imitation of a Kantara scene done alongside director Rishab Shetty triggered strong reactions online, pushing the actor to clarify his intent and apologise.

The Imitation That Sparked the Storm
During an interactive session at IFFI, Ranveer slipped into a quick impression of the iconic Chaundi sequence from Kantara. Calling the character a “female ghost", he crossed his eyes, stuck out his tongue and delivered what he described as a “primordial scream," while Shetty laughed beside him.
He even teased the audience with, “Anybody here want to see me in Kantara 3? Tell this guy,” pointing toward Shetty.
But once the clip made its way to social media, the tone shifted completely.
Reactions ranged from, “Ranveer’s reaction to the Kantara scene really felt unnecessary and disrespectful," to “Making fun of the GOD. You will see what happens with #Dhurander Mr Ranveer Singh.” Another user wrote, “Ranveer should start acting like an A list actor not chapri in public…”
“I intended to highlight Rishabh’s incredible performance in the film. Actor to actor, I know how much it would take to perform that particular scene in the way that he did, for which he has my utmost admiration. I have always deeply respected every culture, tradition and belief in our country. If I’ve hurt anyone’s sentiments, I sincerely apologise."
