Suneel Darshan Reveals Why Akshay Kumar and Shilpa Shetty Didn’t Marry

In a recent Suneel Darshan interview, the filmmaker opened up about the much-talked-about Akshay Kumar Shilpa Shetty relationship from the 1990s. He revealed that the two stars were once seriously considering marriage, but things fell apart after certain conditions set by Shilpa Shetty’s parents were reportedly not fulfilled. According to Darshan, these conditions became a major hurdle, ultimately affecting the future of the Bollywood couple.

While speaking about the Akshay Kumar Shilpa Shetty relationship, Suneel Darshan described them as a good looking pair and said that destiny eventually took its own course. He shared that an astrologer who was close to Rajesh Khanna had once predicted that Akshay Kumar would marry Twinkle Khanna, a prediction that sounded surprising at the time but later turned out to be true.

The filmmaker recalled that when he first heard the astrologer’s prediction, he did not think much of it because Akshay and Twinkle had nothing to do with each other then. Looking back now, he finds it ironic, saying that if Shilpa Shetty’s parents had not placed those conditions, life might have taken a completely different turn for the Bollywood couple.

During the conversation, Suneel Darshan explained that parents often set certain expectations for the security of their daughter. When asked whether he was referring to financial security, he said that all forms of security matter to parents. Although he understood their perspective, he also mentioned that he did not entirely agree with the approach taken by Shilpa Shetty’s family during that phase of the Akshay Kumar Shilpa Shetty relationship.

Suneel Darshan further shared that the breakup happened shortly before the filming of Ek Rishta. When asked if Akshay Kumar had been heartbroken at the time, the filmmaker said that Akshay was handling things well and was staying focused on his career. With films like Dhadkan, Hera Pheri and Ek Rishta happening around the same period, Akshay Kumar was deeply occupied with work and was bouncing back with confidence.

Life eventually moved forward for both stars. In 2001, Akshay Kumar married Twinkle Khanna and the couple built a happy family together with their two children. Years later, in 2009, Shilpa Shetty married Raj Kundra, and the two are also blessed with two kids.
